She is not Arab and she often starts her dances with her back to the public which is no bad thing because it is so shapely. Not quite violon d’ingres but very sexy all the same. In fact, everything about Aida is sexy, her movement, her body, her hair and the way she makes it part of her dance, even her face although I am not so keen on her stiff smile. Still, for a non-Arab, she is quite wonderful. I don’t know much about her except the clips I have seen, most of which are of her performing in Asia or Russia, and what I have read on her site. Would love to see clips of her very young dancing Indian!

My new belly dancer is a real departure from those I have featured until now. I found her thanks to my new twitter friend who has great taste in music although not such great taste in belly dancers except for this one and for my cousin (but then I told him about the latter!). Anyhow, what is interesting about Rebecca‘s dance in this clip is that she is doing it to a piece of classical music, Beethoven’s violin concerto. I don’t remember ever seeing a belly dancer gyrate to anything but rhythmic mostly belly dance music — well, Shakira does to pop music although not as continuous dances; only the occasional movement/s. In any case, orthodox or not,  Vasile’s choreography works and the whole dance is quite mesmerising. She has a beautiful body and she moves it to great effect. Hope you enjoy her as much as I did and thank you Ameen for the virtual introduction.

Today is my birthday and I decided to give you, and myself, two belly dancers instead of one although I don’t know much about either one but I love the mise en scene, especially when the camera moves on to the other dancer’s hips and you don’t know yet there is another one! Apparently Nadia Gamal is Lebanese. I am not sure if this is true, and I don’t even know the other one, Loula Abdo, who according to the notes with the video clip danced in quite a few films — this present clip is from Qolub al-Nass which came out in 1954. She is sexy. I like her and I also like the singer, Souad Mekkawi, who is an added bonus. Great clip and a very fitting birthday present to myself!

I finished the year with my favourite dancer and I start the new one with my second favourite dancer, Samia Gamal, at the height of her fame when she was 30 years old and still had a wonderful body — there were periods when she was quite fat (at least by my standards). Anyhow, her movements are sinuous and graceful, and never vulgar. She did have an irritating habit though and that was her permanent wide fixed smile that seemed silly at times. Not here though!
