Everyone is celebrating in Egypt (well, not Mubarak and his cohort!!) and many must be dancing. It is a momentous day, for the Egyptians and for the rest of the Arab world. And to celebrate with the Egyptians, I am turning to one of their greatest stars and my favourite belly dancer, Tahiya Carioca. Mabruk Egypt and mabruk to the Egyptian people. You make us all proud :).
It’s this time of the month again and I thought I would start the year with Nadia Lutfi who was more of an actress than a belly dancer but from the way she is shaking her hips in this scene from Bayn el Qasrayn, she could have easily been just a dancer. I love the domestic setting, and how it starts in the kitchen and ends in the bedroom. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did; and for those of you who are young and agile, it is not a bad idea for a seduction scene if you happen to be visiting a chef you fancy!
Every year I wish for a white Christmas and this year it looks like I will be getting my wish, except that I am not where it is snowing and I may not make it back in time if the airport remains closed. So, to cheer myself up, I’ve gone to my you tube stash of belly dance videos to choose my dancer for December and here is a a very young and festive looking Tahiya Carioca who is now officially my favorite dancer. I also love Samia Gamal but Tahiya is classier and one day, I will post an interview with the two of them showing how they aged, quite differently one from the other: Tahiya matronly but still fun and twinkly and Samia still trim but rather precious. Wishing you all a very happy Xmas!
