I don’t normally like contemporary belly dancers but my ‘cousin’ Saida is an exception. She has the most perfect body for her profession, full without being plump and without any skin pleats or love handles. Just smooth curves. And she moves her body beautifully and sexily without any hint of vulgarity. I also love the costume she is wearing in this clip with the high slit on one side revealing her perfect hips. All in all a delight to watch. One day I will find out if she really is my cousin!

Because I am in Sicily where the colours and views are gorgeous, I thought I would give you a colourful belly dancer this month, in all senses! Nagwa Fouad was a huge star when I grew up in Beirut and the scene in this clip is really my youth, except that my father would have never let me go out like the girl meeting her fiancé. And ccertainly not to a place where there was belly dancing. My first time at the Caves du Roy was with a gorgeous German man I met on the beach during a few days when my parents were away. This freedom did not last, at least not when I was sixteen. Anyway, Nagwa Fouad is still attractive in this video. Later she began to look more vulgar and more like a transvestite but I kind of like her here and there is no doubt she is a very good dancer!

You are lucky today. You are getting three clips in one. Just found this on youtube without unfortunately much explanation but they all seem to be of a very young Tahiya, possibly before she became the huge star she was. Not sure. Anyone who knows, please tell me. In any case, she is particularly beguiling in the third dance where she is as always incredibly sexy without being vulgar, but there even more so with an element of purity which is not something you would normally associate with belly dancing!

I have a new favourite belly dancer. She will not replace Tahiya of course but I just found her on youtube and I love her. I love her perfectly formed body and her sexy yet elegant movement. And I love the mise en scene and how her gorgeous body is shot en silhouette before it appears on the stage of what must have been a very upmarket night club, in the film at least. I wonder why she never became a big star. She appeared in only a dozen films. Perhaps she married and had lots of children and decided to devote her life to them. Our loss!
